Child Support

My husband and I separated 7 years ago. He ignored my child after a year of supporting. He blocked me in social media, he changes his number everytime I found out the new one. Can I still file for child support.? Your answer will mean so much. Thank you.

Of course, you can. As long as the child is a minor, the child needs to be supported. Even when a child has reached the age of majority, if the child has a disability, then the child needs support. If a child has reached majority and has no disability but has not finished his or her studies (kasi ngayon, may K-12 na, ang mga 17-18 years old ay high school graduate pa lamang), the child still needs to be supported.

You can always ask for present support and you can ask for future support, but you cannot ask for past support. kasi, you said that your husband supported your child for a year but stopped. You cannot ask for back support.

kasi, support is for survival. The fact that the child survived even without the support for the time that the husband has stopped supporting the child means that the support was not necessary at that time.

Support is always based upon real needs.
