I was 17 when we got married in Philippines. Our marriage is null and void according to Phil law but its registered in NSO. We separated 14 years ago and my ex already married to another woman coz he converted to muslim. My question is, can i remarry without it having dissolve or annulled? If not, what would be the steps i need to take so i can marry my US boyfriend. Thank you for the reply in advance.

You married your Filipino husband when you were 17. If you married him after 1989 and you were only 17, your marriage is void under the Family Code.

Unfortunately, even if your marriage is void, you still have to go to court and ask the court to declare your marriage a nullity. Without the order of the court declaring your marriage null and void because you were underage when you got married to him, you cannot re-marry.

I suggest you go and see a lawyer in the Philippines. And perhaps, while you are researching what legal steps to take, you might want to consult a lawyer who specializes in Shar'ia Law (Muslim Code of Personal Laws) kasi, baka mas madali ang divorce under Shar'ia Law kaysa sa annulment sa regular courts. Dahil nga sa iyong husband mo ay Muslim na. I don't know if you can, but, it might be worth your while to ask.
