Pwede bang idiborsyo ang aking asawa, kapag nagpa convert na ako sa Islam?

Nais ko lang po sanang humingi ng payo: Kasal po ako sa civil noong 1990 at naghiwalay kami ng asawa ko noong 1998 dahil sa babae. Alhamdulillah ngayon po ako ay isa ng ganap na Islam. Nagpaconvert po ako noong 2003 noong ako ay nasa sa Riyadh.

Maari ko po bang edivorsyo ang asawa ko sa Sharia court sa Pilipinas kahit na kasal namin ay sa civil? Sapat na ba ang diborsyo namin upang ako ay makapagpakasal uli civil man o sa islam? At kung kami ay madiborsyo sa Sharia court, kinakailangan ko pa bang magfile pa ng annulment sa korte?

Naku, I am not an expert on Muslim or Shari'ah law. Una, hindi ko alam kung ano ang epekto ng iyong conversion to Islam sa iyong marriage under civil law. Hindi ko alam kung ang divorce sa Shari'ah courts ay sapat at kung ang mga Shari'ah courts ay may power na i-order sa Office of Civil Registry na iregister ang iyong divorce.

I have no experience with this. Ang isa pa, ang iyong conversion sa Muslim faith ay hindi dito sa Pilipinas, ito ay ginawa mo noong ikaw ay nasa Riyadh. I think you might need to talk to an imam here in the Philippines. Kasi, sila ang makapag-bibigay sa iyo ng advice dahil sa sila ang officials who are authorized to perform marriages under Muslim laws.

I regret that I do not know anything about this. I do know that there is often a conflict of laws lalo na sa mga converts from Catholicism to Muslim religions.
