· Pagka-uhaw

Hangover symptoms typically appear the morning after a night of heavy drinking when your blood alcohol drops significantly and is at or near zero. Depending on the type and amount of what you drank, you may notice fatigue, thirst, headaches and muscle aches, nausea accompanied by vomiting or stomach pain, poor or decreased sleep, increased sensitivity to light and sound, dizziness or a sense of the room spinning, rapid heartbeat, red bloodshot eyes, shakiness, decreased ability to concentrate and mood disturbances, such as depression, anxiety and irritability.

Symptoms of hangover are the results of too much alcohol consumption combined with several factors. For example, alcohol can induce urination and when this happens, your body loses water and may lead to dehydration which can cause sensations of thirst and lightheadedness. On the other hand, alcohol can also increase the acids in a person's stomach which may result to gastric irritation associated with nausea, vomiting or stomachache. Lastly, alcohol can dilate blood vessels which can cause headaches and the inflammatory response of the immune system to alcohol may affect appetite, concentration and memory.

Oftentimes, there are instances that hangover is the price that you have to pay for enjoying and partying from sundown to sunup especially when there are occasions where you can't avoid drinking alcohol. And when you get home, it becomes difficult for you to get rid of the effects of too much alcohol consumption. Worry no more because the remedies for hangover are usually found at home.

First, since you've lost a lot of fluids and electrolytes from too much urinating as an effect of too much alcohol. Hence, you have to replace these losses by drinking fluids and eating food rich in potassium such as banana. On the other hand, to treat nausea, ginger has the best effect. You can take ginger ale, tea or brew. Lastly, honey and lemon mixed in hot water replenishes fluids and sugars lost to a hangover. Honey contains fructose, which competes for the metabolism of alcohol and prevents rapid changes in alcohol levels. You can also apply ice compress to relieve headache.
