My doctor told me to avoid strenuous activity, such as exercise, after my 3rd molar tooth was extracted. But i was embarassed to ask if that includes having sex.

Is it ok or safe to engage in sexual activity after my tooth was removed? Or how many days should i wait? Is masturbation an option? My boyfriend says that even masturbating is not allowed

Kung ikaw ay wala namang ibang sakit sa dugo, diabetes at hindi naman malakas ang pagdudugo dahil sa tooth extraction, walang problema sa pagbalik sa pa pakikipagtalik.

It is best to follow your dentist’s post extraction instructions properly after having your teeth pulled. This involves relaxing for at least the first 24 hours after the extraction. Then reducing activity for the next day or two.

Physical activity may affect the formation or retention of the blood clot and interrupt the healing process. It may also cause excessive bleeding. This is because any strenuous exercise or exercise makes your heart beat faster. And faster pumping results in stronger blood flow which might make it difficult to create a blood clot in the hole or even dislodge it. One must have patience to wait until the mouth has fully healed. There are stories of patients who bleed too much causing complications and may even be life threatening. It usually takes 2-4 days for the initial clots to form in the tooth sockets, and around a week to heal over.

So it is best to wait for a week (at the minimum 72 hours) to avoid getting a ‘dry socket’, wherein there is no blood clot filling the socket and the nerves are exposed. Also, using a straw with sucking motion can cause more bleeding by dislodging the blood clot. It is important to follow dentist’s precautionary measures.
