Oo, posibleng bumalik ang AML, kahit nawala ito ng matagal na panahon. Ang ibig sabihin ng remission ay walang leukemia cells na nakikita sa iyong bone marrow gamit ang standard na pagsusuri. Kung gaano kataas ang posibilidad na babalik ang iyong leukemia ay depende sa maraming bagay, tulad ng edad kung kailan ka nagkaroon nito at ang uri ng AML na meron ka.
Ang layunin ng lunas para sa AML ay mapuksa ang kanser at mapigilan ang pagbalik nito (relapsing). Kung gaano ka-matagumpay nito ay depende sa iyong edad, uri ng AML na meron ka, at gaano kahusay ang chemotherapy. Halos kalahati ng lahat ng tao na may edad 50 pababa na may AML ay mabubuhay ng hindi bababa sa limang taon at sa karamihan nito, hindi na babalik ang AML. Subalit, posible pa ring bumalik ang AML pagkatapos ng panahong ito. Sa mga taong edad 50 pataas na may AML, mahigit-kumulang 12 sa bawat 100 ay mabubuhay ng limang taon pataas.
Kung mas malala ang iyong AML, mas mataas din ang panganib ng pagbalik nito. Kapag nagkataong bumalik nga ito, posible din namang sumailalim sa karagdagang gamutan. Kakailanganin nito ang mas maraming chemotherapy at kapag nagtagumpay ito, maaari kang magpa-bone marrow (stem cell) transplant. Kapag hindi tumigil ang iyong AML, maaaring magrekomenda ng lunas ang doktor para magamot ang mga sintomas tulad ng pagkahapo at pananakit.
