Pregnancy is the most important time for a healthy balanced diet. Your baby needs the extra calories you consume so better make them nutritious calories!

In the first trimester it is extremely important to get enough folic acid. This will prevent spinal bifida. Folic acid is best found in green leafy vegetables but the easiest way to make sure you are getting enough is by taking a folic acid supplement.

Calcium and vitamin d is important for their growing bones. Protein is needed for their muscles. Eggs and milk are a good source of both of these. You need about 3 servings of dairy during second and third trimester.

Red meat is a good source of iron as well which tends to be reduced in the second trimester.

Eat as much fruits and vegetables throughout the whole pregnancy.

There is no reason to "eat for two". Babies only use up about 300 calories per day extra to grow. It's more important to get good quality foods rather than a lot of food.
