DO I need to get ankle brace or walking boot after ankle surgery?


I had talar dome fracture on my right ankle and got cast for 2 months and it didn't heal. I got arthroscopic microfracture surgery 2 weeks ago. They drilled the separated little bone out and they said that new bone will grow from it and the recovery is 6 weeks and after that I have school and want to walk without crutches. The doctor still hasn't said anything about putting ankle brace or walking boot after that but I kinda want it. The problem is that it is little expensive and my mother will likely not gonna buy it for me. I watched youtube videos that they got these foot equipment after surgery but it was from fractured tibia/fibula and not from talar dome that I got. If it is really needed, I will persuade my mother to buy it. Do I really need to get ankle brace or walking boot?

Yes you can use ankle brace. It helps to protect ankle or immobilize the joint while providing heat and compression to the joint which helps in healing. but your surgeon would be the bet person to advise you when and how you can start using it.
