High blood pressure is a rampant condition in which the there is a very high force of blood pumping into the artery walls – strong enough to cause problems in the heart and its functions. Hypertension is increase in blood pressure. And blood pressure defined is the measure of force exerted by the heart when it pumps blood on the arteries. A narrower artery with given much more volume of blood suggests high blood pressure.

Causes

The heart is responsible for pumping blood into the arteries (blood vessels), which serve as the highway for the blood throughout the body. High blood pressure is threatening because it causes the heart to work harder to be able to pump blood throughout the body and is responsible with the hardening of the arteries, known as atherosclerosis, and eventually leading to heart failure. The exact causes of hypertension cannot be pinpointed yet, but several factors and conditions are identified that may contribute to having the disease and they are: smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, high sodium intake, consumption of too much alcohol, stress, aging, genetics, high blood pressure in the family, chronic kidney disease and many more.

Signs and Symptoms

There are major ways in controlling your blood pressure.

Treatment

Exercise regularly and stick to a healthy weight, do not let stress beat you up, avoid smoking, take medications prescribed for you and follow them regularly, limit alcohol intake. Regarding medication intake, we have classifications of drugs namely the: angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), calcium channel blockers (CCBs), or diuretics that may be recommended.
