A medical consultation project organized by the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong found out that many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) suffer from work-related illnesses such as body aches, skin infections, fatigue, lack of sleep, poor nutrition and infections.
The consultation and lecture on wellness was held at the consulate premises in October 2012. Those who participated were Dr. Oscar Tinio, past PMA president; members of the Cavite Medical Society. Dr. Tinio said the incidence of death due to NCD is a growing public health concern that does not receive the amount of media attention that it deserves.
“These diseases are creeping to the Filipino population as they affect mostly middle- to low-income families,” Dr. Tinio said, advising his audience to adopt a healthier lifestyle and undergo periodic health screening as preventive measures.
