Topic: A lot of us overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia are not fortunate. Some of us have employers who do not follow the salary stated in the signed contract, that we signed through the employment agency in the Philippines. Others get paid their salary only after 3 months. There are also some who are not paid their wages at all. A lot of our countrymen escape from their employers because they were not being paid their salaries, while others were being abused.

This is the reason why there are a lot of undocumented Filipinos in Saudi Arabia. These Filipinos are now needing help from the government. It is also common here in Saudi Arabia that the job position stated in the Visa is different from the actual job or position that is given upon arrival in Saudi. For example, your work may be an Engineer but your position is laborer. The employers say that the reason is that there are no available visas, but the truth is, they do not want to pay, because the visa is expensive if the position is higher.

There is a story for this: There was a caged tiger in Saudi Arabia that was wondering why he was being fed bananas everyday, and not meat. Angry about this, the tiger asked the police why bananas were being given to him, and not meat. The police replied, 'Of course because monkey is stated in your visa, and not tiger.' This is what is happening to overseas Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia. Hope our government is 'not sleeping in the noodle house' (sleeping on the job) and taking action to help solve this problem.

May we ask for a small favor?

Unlike others, we don't charge users fees for asking questions from our medical, legal and other experts. This is because we want to keep our services free and accessible to all, regardless of social or financial status.

But it's difficult and expensive work. While more underserved Filipinos are using BuhayOFW, none are paying for it. And advertising revenues are minimal. Nevertheless, we have costs like any other top site: servers, power, rent, programs, staff, medical/legal experts, etc. We take no government funds; we run on donations.

So if you value our work in helping less fortunate Filipino friends, then become a Supporter and help make our future more secure. Help us continue our work.

Karapatan mo yun. Pag hinayaan mong gawin nila yun - Engineer while applying and then Laborer ang Visa, ikaw lang ang kawawa.
